Posterior Cervical Decompression and Fusion

Similar to the anterior cervical discectomy procedure, the removing herniated or enlarged discs among the back of the patient is performed. The entry approach for this surgical procedure is entered through the back of the neck with easier access to the affected area to the side of the spinal cord. First a simple back neck incision is made followed by the removal of the herniated disc. The procedure of fusion the vertebrae together is not necessarily required with the posterior approach in this surgery.
