NJ Top Docs has reviewed and approved Dr. Omar N. Syed of Metropolitan Neurosurgery Associates based on merit for 2026. Dr. Syed is a board-certified neurosurgeon and fellowship-trained specialist in minimally invasive and complex spine surgery. With a career spanning advanced surgical care, hospital leadership, and patient-focused treatment, Dr. Syed brings extensive experience to the care of individuals facing neurological and spinal conditions.
Dr. Syed earned his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine before completing his neurosurgical residency at The Neurological Institute of New York at Columbia University Medical Center. He continued his training with a fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Complex Spine Surgery at the University of Tennessee and Semmes-Murphey Clinic in Memphis.
Prior to joining Metropolitan Neurosurgery, Dr. Syed practiced in New York, where he held several leadership positions. At Northern Westchester Hospital, he served as Director of the Spine Radiosurgery Program and Assistant Director of the Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Program. He was also appointed to the Northern Westchester Hospital Foundation Board. At Putnam Hospital Center, he served as Vice-Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery and Director of Spine Surgery.
In addition to his clinical and hospital leadership roles, Dr. Syed has been actively involved with the Westchester County Medical Society, where he held a number of positions, including President.
