The Joint Commission has awarded Englewood (N.J.) Health its Gold Seal of Approval for spinal fusion for the fourth time since 2012.

To earn the certification, the hospital had to comply with national care standards, use evidence-based guidelines and have an organized approach to quality and performance improvement.

The Joint Commission conducted a review of the spine and total joint programs in November and determined they complied with standards of care that include program leadership, patient care delivery, self-care management and clinical information systems.

“This national quality rating for spinal fusion surgery provides external validation of our safety and quality, which patients can rely on when choosing a hospital for spine surgery,” Omar Syed, MD, said. “Our team is providing top-notch spine care, day in and day out, and every member of the team is to be commended on this achievement.”

Englewood Health has held the Joint Commission’s gold seal for total hip replacement and total knee replacement since 2008.
